Bathroom Remodeling: Decisions to Make Before Demolition
Bathroom demolition is not the first step in a successful remodel. The important decisions about layout, plumbing, lighting, ventilation, waterproofing, storage, and finishes should be coordinated before the room is opened.
Good preparation shortens the period when the bathroom is unusable and reduces rushed choices after hidden conditions are exposed.
Decide Whether the Layout Should Change
Keeping fixtures in place can reduce plumbing work, but it should not preserve a poor layout. Review door swings, shower access, vanity depth, toilet clearances, storage, and the way more than one person may use the room.

Select Fixtures Before Rough-In
Faucets, valves, tubs, shower systems, toilets, sinks, vanities, medicine cabinets, and accessories affect framing and plumbing locations. Product dimensions should be verified before walls are closed.
Specify Waterproofing as a System
Tile is a finish, not the waterproof layer. Shower pans, wall membranes, curbs or curbless transitions, niches, benches, drains, and penetrations must be detailed as one compatible assembly.

Coordinate Lighting and Ventilation
Combine general, vanity, shower, and nighttime lighting. Place switches and outlets around mirrors, cabinetry, and code requirements. An appropriately sized exhaust fan with a proper exterior termination helps control humidity.
Prepare for Concealed Conditions
Older bathrooms may reveal damaged framing, inadequate wiring, plumbing corrosion, or previous waterproofing failures. Dactts offers bathroom remodeling with coordinated planning. Contact Dactts before demolition begins.
